Zoom offers full end-to-end encryption as a beta functionality. This functionality must be explicitly enabled for a scheduled meeting. We recommend using this in teaching only in exceptional cases for particularly sensitive content (e.g. patient data), as various functionalities of interest for teaching will then no longer be available, in particular breakout rooms and polling. In addition, host and participants must be using Zoom Client version 5.5.0. or later. Participation via the Web Client is not possible. To make sure you have the latest version of Zoom installed on your computer, open Zoom and click on your user icon/image in the upper right corner. Then select "Check for updates" and install the latest version if needed.

The University of Basel has a Zoom license with a capacity of 300 participants per meeting. Upon request to the IT Service Desk, the maximum number of participants can be increased to 500. Transmission problems usually occur due to insufficient WLAN connections of the participants. In such cases, it can help to turn off video and audio output at the participants' end (i.e., participants can see and hear, but cannot be seen and heard). This can be controlled centrally by the host.

How often or how long a link or the meeting ID can be used for a Zoom meeting can be used depends on the type of meeting: A link or meeting ID for a one-time scheduled meeting expires 30 days after the meeting is after the date scheduled for the meeting. You can restart this meeting as many times as you want within the 30 day period as many times as you want. A link or meeting ID for a recurring meeting expires 365 days after the meeting was last started. the meeting was started for the last time. You can reuse the meeting ID for future for meetings that take place in the future. Scheduled meetings can be started any time before the scheduled time. The link expires or becomes invalid only if the 30-day period is exceeded for a non-recurring meeting. 30 days for a non-recurring meeting, a link is not used for a recurring meeting has not been used for over 365 days, or has been deleted from your Zoom account. A link for an instant meeting expires as soon as the meeting is over. The link or ID for their private meeting room never expires.
